2004 Champion Rhys Millen, in the Red Bull Hyundai Genesis, looked to take out the 2009 Champion, Chris Forsberg in his NOS Energy Nissan 370Z. If Rhys did, it would mean that he could potentially podium twice in a row, since he won in Las Vegas. If Chris moved on, it could mean a chance at the 2011 Formula Drift Championship if he won the event! Rhys, however, was still on fire and continued to prove that having a V8 isn't the hot set up if you build your car right by pulling a three car length gap against Forsberg, who is running a Nissan V8! On his Lead Run, Forsberg wasn't able to shake Millen and Rhys moved on to the Finals! With 2011 being a successful season, Forsberg has a lot to look forward to in 2012. If he can improve his performance in one round and have a mostly repeat performance for next year, we could see an even tighter Championship!

Falken Tire versus Falken Tire, Championship hopes versus a man with his inner driving demons coming out of the pits of hell to burn dreams and dash hopes. Darren McNamara in the Falken Tire Saturn Sky faced Tyler McQuarrie in the Falken Tire Nissan 350Z. Would team orders come into play? Would Tyler listen if they did? Could Darren move on and win if he were to beat McQuarrie? Both were driven, regardless, to win this round and their performance proved that. If there were team orders, Darren didn't show it as he drove harder in this round than I have seen him in any other and Tyler drove lead as if he needed this round, as if this were his last round because it could have been. Tyler pulled a gap against Darren, despite these two cars being the fastest cars in the 2011 season. With the pressure coming from Tyler and the potential to win the Formula Drift Championship in his grasp, Darren McNamara slips. As he entered the inner oval, a little too much push caused him to bump the wall, error his line, and Tyler's 350Z to finish the course at the door of the Falken Sky. Darren McNamara would not win the 2011 Formula Drift Championship this day, instead with this defeat, Daijiro Yoshihara, the SPD Metalworks Crew, and Discount Tire/Falken Tire would win the 2011 Formula Drift Championship!
T-Mac vs D-Mac, with T-Mac taking the win! |
However, the even wasn't over, as we still had Third Place to decide and that battle was between Chris Forsberg and Darren McNamara, and both drivers could earn third place overall! It would be the round to decide third for Round 7 and Overall as both drivers lined up for their run at bronze! While following Forsberg, Darren hit Chris just before the front clipping zone in the inner oval. This caused McNamara to stall and come to a stop giving Forsberg the advantage! On McNamara's lead run, both drivers got into unforced errors! D-Mac tagged the wall with the rear of his car in the inner oval, however, Forsberg slammed rear first into the K-rails behind him, causing his car to become airborne! Once it was seen that he's alright, it is announced the Chris Forsberg got the win because of Darren not only hitting Forsberg, but stalling his car on his follow run. Chris Forsberg, in his NOS Energy Drink Nissan 370Z is not only your Third Place finisher at Round 7, but your Third Place winner for the 2011 Formula Drift Championship! Because of his better points position, Justin Pawlak in the Falken Tire Ford Mustang is your Second Place winner of the 2011 Formula Drift Championship!
Synchronized impacts for Forsberg and McNamara, who both walk away unhurt! This crash guaranteed Dai's championship. |
