With winter finally departing, for most of us car guys, that means racing season is back! F1 and Moto GP are getting back on track and local time-attack and racing series kick-off their season as well.

Today we cover the first round of the Redline Time Attack series hosted at Buttonwillow Raceway Park located in Buttonwillow, CA, about 2-hours north of Los Angeles. In this 8-round series, cars are divided into 4 different classes based on modifications, drivetrain and tire selection and pin their best lap times against other competitors in their class. There’s pretty much a class for everyone no matter their experience or car they bring to compete (all-out race car brought on the trailer or the daily-driven car).

The competition was fierce in all the classes. There were mechanical failures, oil spills, and even a few engine fires.

The 2015 season opener hosted a full field of 65 competitors at Buttonwillow. It was a sold-out day with lots of action on the track and plenty of spectators to enjoy all of it. The weather forecast showed a strong chance of rain, but luck was on our side and everyone stayed dry.

In the Unlimited class, the 8 drivers were separated by 16 seconds. The overall fastest driver in that class was Jon Hume in a Nissan Skyline R35 with a blistering time of 1:50.799 in the AWD class.
Roy Narvaez  took first place in the RWD class in his Atom with a time of 1:54.852.
Steven Lam took first in the FWD class with his Honda CRX in a time of 2:00.260.
