We bolted the rear of the diff in place and…
We discovered that our fiff was now about 0.080 too far forward and our front mountbolts wanted to cross thread going in. We would have to move the entire diff back just a little. We considered two things, we could mill a little off the mounting stud bosses on the diff cover or we could modify the crossmember. We decided to mod the crossmember.
We used some dimple dies to partially press a concave area to the back of the crossmemeber. We didn’t press too hard as we only had to go a little bit.
Here is what the back of the crossmember looked like once we pressed it. You can see how the diff can now mount back just a little bit.
