Deciding to leave flocking for the Christmas tree industry, we instead picked up a 5' x 2' piece of 3M carbon fiber-like vinyl wrap. Vinyl wrap technology has really progressed in the last couple of years with embossed, metallic finishes as well as air release technology, which allows the installer to easily push out air bubbles
The embossed pattern of our particular 3M material makes it pretty convincing and continues to fool some of the keenest, most discriminating eyes.
Even better, its matte finish cut down the glare perfectly which provides me with a reasonable excuse to use fake carbon fiber in a race car. Disagree? Well, you can go flock yourself! Thus far our only concern is the vinyl’s resistance to scuffing.
On this F-150 header, John utilized Burn’s Stainless double slip fit merge collector to increase the durability of the header by allowing it to more freely expand and contract during thermal cycling. |
With our dash all wrapped up (literally), the team has been kicking around some ideas for the future, specifically the turbo upgrade. Amongst those ideas, is utilizing John’s talent for welding exotic materials to build a trick, equal length turbo manifold using 321 stainless steel tubing and a trick double slip fit merge collector from Burn’s Stainless. Nonetheless, we’ll leave more of the manifold talk for a future article. Until then, you can continue to satisfy your gear head needs by surfing our sponsor sites and past 240LSR articles on the links below. Enjoy!
