You’ve just dropped many, many multiple hundreds (likely thousands) of dollars on safety gear. Some of it, like your helmet, will only last a few years before it’s ineligible to be used any longer. Clothing touches your body. Racing is hot and sweaty. And, if you’re a privateer, you’re likely wearing both the driver and mechanic hats, which means you might not always take the time to remove your suit before you check the oil or check those tire pressures. Your gear is going to get dirty.
But these are special fabrics with flame retardant, elastic, moisture-wicking, or other properties. Can you just throw them in the washer? Thanks to Molecule, you actually can.

Before trying the Molecule products on my new gear, I figured that it couldn’t hurt to see what they would do with old gear. Before I knew any better, and back in the day, I had had my racing suit dry cleaned. This is an ABSOLUTE NO. The chemicals used in dry cleaning can interfere with and/or degrade the flame retardant properties of your clothing items. Don’t do it. So, since I wasn’t going to use this old suit anymore, or perhaps only use it as a back-up, I wasn’t really worried about making things worse by trying the Molecule stuff.
I threw my head sock and racing socks in the washer with the suit, and overall everything came out great and smelled nice, too. The stain did not really improve, but that stain had been on the suit for more than a decade, and had basically been baked in from dry cleaning. I can’t complain.
Overall, I am really glad that care products like these exist. And maybe I should try to be less of a slob. Or maybe I’ll just let Molecule take care of it and not wait 10 years to wash my suit!
