For dyno testing, we normally just put the CD-5 in the co-pilots lap. For late model cars, we have a dyno operator and we have another person who watches the cars data and tells the operator when to begin runs. We let the car normalize and get rid of the run to run heat soak.
We often do third-party validation for performance part manufactures. Many of them do not want the results published so you don’t get to read about them. Careful monitoring and data logging assures accurate results and the AEM Electronics CD-5 plays an important role in this testing.
We also use the CD-5 for our own dynamic testing. In this case, we used the CD-5 to validate our suspension setup on Project V-8 FD RX-7 for handling, braking, and drag launches.
So the AEM Electronics CD-5 is more than just another digital dash display for race cars. Using AEM’s accessories we have had a lot of luck using the dash for monitoring and logging during testing and tuning all major systems of the car from the engine to the suspension and brakes, often switching from car to car in minutes.
The CD-5 has earned a place as an important tool for us and has enabled us to write more accurate editorial for you! The flexibility of the CD-5 belongs in your car (cars) too!
