I spent qualifying in the pitlane.  It's a very, very busy place when every team is fighting for an advantage at the start of the race.

Most teams having a pit box with a timing screen, surrounded by the pit crew looking on in suspense as the sector times come in from their drivers. It's reminiscent of F1 and looks cool as hell.

After two mediocre practice sessions, the United Autosports Audi R8GT of Charles Bateman took the honours during the amateur qualifying session, giving them a crucial advantage for Race 1 on Monday.

It wasn't an easy position to take, however. The majority of the session was headed by RJN Motorsport in the GT Academy sponsored Nissan GTR GT3 of Jan Mardenborough. They eventually qualified in 4th position.

The result of a late charge by Beechdean Motorsport's Andrew Howard put their Aston Martin in 2nd place, almost a second away from Bateman in the R8, followed by Ecurie Ecosse in the Z4 GT3.

After the driver change the professionals were in charge of the action.

Trackspeed Porsche driver Richard Westbrook charged to pole position at the end of the session much faster than anybody expected with a time of 1:35.4
The Beechdean Aston Martin of Jonathan Adam took the second spot on the grid, giving them a fantastic front row position for both races.

Third place went to MTech and Matt Griffin in the Ferrari 458 Italia.
