Burns Stainless Introduces “Gill Sensors & Controls”
Burns Stainless is pleased to introduce new innovative sensor technology to the North American market! Gill Sensor and Controls is currently a supplier to European motorsports including Formula One, Rally Car and the World Endurance Championships. Gill's sensors include solid state liquid level sensors, oil condition sensors and highly accurate ultrasonic fuel flow meters.
The Gill GScondition Oil Contamination Sensor is an innovative product capable of real-time monitoring of ferric particles and water intrusion in an oil supply. The sensor system uses a magnetic probe to capture ferric particles and using Gill's proprietary inductive technology, measures the accumulation of both fine and coarse particles in the oil supply providing engineers and technicians the earliest possible warning of component failure.
The GSflow liquid Fuel Flow Meter uses proven solid-state ultrasonic technology to accurately measure liquid flowrates. Unlike Coriolis based technologies, Gill's solid state (i.e. no moving parts) design is compact, lightweight and built to withstand the on-track abuse with extreme levels of vibration and temperature. This meter is currently certified by the FIA for use on F1 and WEC race vehicles.
The Gill GSlevel sensor is a solid state capacitive design which has no moving parts, is highly accurate and able to withstand harsh environments found in racing vehicles including Formula One cars. The sensors can be used in fuel, oil and coolant tanks and are programmable for multiple liquids and odd-shaped tanks providing extremely high resolution level sensing in the harshest of racing environments.
“With precise and reliable level sensing in an oil tank, the team can reduce the quantity of oil in the vehicle allowing for beneficial weight savings without risking oil starvation.” Vince Roman, Technical Director of Burns Stainless continues, “Reducing the amount of oil by 1-2 quarts in the sump will achieve a 1.75 to 3.5-pound reduction in car weight, allowing for weight relocation.”
