On the left side of the pan, there is a kickout and an underhang that also helps trap windage oil from the spinning crank and rods and return it to the pan sump.

The long tubes around the edges of the pan are so you can get to the pan bolts. This was needed to give the pan more room to go outwards. It’s pretty complicated but it was the only way to get more space for the spinning parts and to make more room to strip the oil from the windage cloud.

The tubes for bolt access run down both sides of the pan. There is also a full-length tube going into the oil pan for the dipstick as shown on the left.

The BDE pan is made out of tig brazed mild steel. Tig brazing is when you use a brass filler rod and the tig torch to get the base metal hot enough to melt the filler. It takes less heat than regular tig welding so you won’t warp the sheet metal and the seams are more flexible and ductile to resist cracking in the thin metal later. We are going to have to paint or powder coat the outside of the pan later to keep it from rusting.

A nice touch is this flapper door on the oil drain for the turbos. This helps oil from splashing over the drain and back flowing up the drain possibly causing the turbos to smoke.

Thank you thank you for returning to this project, I have read the old project 300zx articles a million times and was so bummed about there never being a conclusion (not as bummed as I am about the Dave Coleman unfinished Silvia and Miata articles)
Also where’s the drag 2jz motor mike?!
Thanks again
Yes, I’ve said on IG and FB and wherever else, the SCC nerd in me is so excited. Love the new tech being injected on such a iconic build.
Wow, the return of the legendary 300ZX project from SCC! I will really enjoy this series.
Quick mention: it’s BDE and not BPE as you mis-typed on pages 1-3 FYI.
Thank you so much for bringing this project back!
That is a pretty trick piece. I wish there was something off the shelf somewhat similar for my MK6 Golf R.
Is this available? On the website it says discontinued. Thanks.
It says out of stock, not discontinued.
