HOW TO: Watch the Pikes Peak Hillclimb!

,

If you want to get a little bit closer to the action you can always post up lower on the mountain at Double Cut corner, which has comparable views to Devil’s Playground but puts you right on the side of the track.

The cars come rocketing towards you after tearing past Ragged Edge corner, and you get some close up views as they rip through the corners and then continue to speed up towards the summit.

The rocky and largely lifeless surface of the upper section makes it seem like an alien planet, but it is worthwhile to show up extra early and spend some time wandering through the dimly lit paddock. Its always interesting to see how different teams get prepared before their runs.

Some teams simply roll their car off the trailer and are ready to rock. Others will check over their car from top to bottom to make sure that everything is working perfectly. Given the risks that drivers face should a failure occur, I definitely don’t blame them for being a bit over cautious!

Whether it's a qualifying session or the day of the big race, you will always find plenty of action at the starting line. It should be noted that at the higher altitudes you need to be very aware of yourself, you will find yourself running out of breath much quicker due to the thin air. Altitude sickness can be a problem for some people so make sure that you do your best to stay hydrated and don't over exert yourself!
