The next day was the 2010 Indy 500 race. After a big breakfast at the hotel, all of the BorgWarner staff and guests boarded three large buses and were led directly to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway by police escort. It was cool because we didn't have to stop at any lights or intersections. The cops kept it flowing for us straight to the track.
Once there we made our way to the BorgWarner suites that were near the beginning of the front straight right after turn 4. It turned out to be the place to be when the drivers started pressing really hard toward the end. A spectacular crash happened right in front us and there was carnage all over the track. Nobody got hurt badly fortunately, but I have to admit that watching spectacular crashes in real life are AWESOME.
Track management never releases official attendance numbers, but the outfield seats 257,000 people. Seats in the infield make the total seating 400,000. Then there's plenty of standing room too. This was the view just outside our BorgWarner suite.
You can see that the outfield stands are virtually packed. Jewel sang the national anthem.
Left to right: Ken, me, Brett, and Thom. Now you know what Ken, Brett and Thom look like so you can ask them where your EFR turbos are! No serioiusly, I'm told that all BorgWarner EFR distributors are now slowly recieving inventory. There were some delays with turbine housing castings, but those issues have been resolved.
It was a great trip overall. The museum was amazing, the flight was good, the hotel was great, the food was good, and we got to meet a lot of cool people from the BorgWarner staff. I'd like to thank Brett and Thom for a really awesome weekend. Hopefully there are more in the future since BorgWarner will be supplying the entire 2012 IRL field with EFR turbochargers!
