Boost control at these power levels is vitally important. By using a CO2 tank and directly manipulating the pressure at the top of the wastegate, extremely fine-grained boost control can be achieved. You might remember a similar setup from Kevin Mullins’ drag car. What’s the other tank for? A ‘chute button causes an electro-mechanical air ram to actuate the parachute release levers (pictured right), which then actuates the air-assisted ‘chute opener.
And, if that all goes wrong, there’s still a manual “oh sh$@” handle — their words. You’ll also notice that there are fire system nozzles just about everywhere you look. This is of course to protect the driver, but also to protect the investment. No one likes to watch helplessly as a car burns to the ground.
Keeping the intake charge cool is the job of a huge air-water intercooler. As is common on many big V8 drag cars, the intake charge is routed through the firewall into the intercooler sitting in the passenger seat area, and then back into the reverse-facing intake. A dedicated liquid tank is located in the trunk and pipes fluid through the intercooler.
What is always surprising is the relatively minimal amount of suspension work done on cars that go this fast. Eibach coilover struts and springs up front and shocks out back round out an otherwise mostly stock suspension setup.
The factory front Brembo GT500 brakes were kept, but the rears were upgraded to Strange HD units. Hoosier 315/40ZR19 rears are paired with 255/35R18 fronts wrapping CCW wheels.

The aero work has been fairly minimal, too, with only a modified and closed-up front bumper paired with a carbon-fiber rear wing.
If you’ve been wondering why M2K seems familiar, it’s probably because you remember that MotoIQ covered their record-setting Ford GT, too.

The father and son team of Bill and Billy Wagner have taken on their racing obsession alone. With no sponsors other than their HVAC company, Airtech of Houston, and their partnership with M2K Motorsports, the family effort has managed to produce the fastest Shelby Mustang out there, and they hope to continue to break records with it for the foreseeable future.
