Mad Mike’s 500 Horsepower N/A Rotary V8 Slayer

TCP Magic custom intake manifold and bundle-of-snakes 4-2-1 exhaust manifold.

Beyond the gazillion custom (TCP-Magic) made parts, including the intake manifold, 4-2-1 exhaust, aluminum accessory pulleys, a myriad of catch tanks… the 4 rotor features a Toda quad throttle body and fuel rail from an S2000. Makes sense right; build the manifold upwards to meet an off-the-shelf quad throttle system.

Two lines come from the fuel pump and join at the collector, then one goes toward the engine. The Fuel Safe Tank also holds the minimum amount of fuel necessary for a good run.

Fuel meets the individual throttle bodies via 1000cc injectors, which begins up-stream via a Fuel safe tank. As one can imagine, the extreme side loads of drifting creates a phenomenon often called “tank slap” and an elaborate maze of fuel pumps, catch tanks, and hoses minimize the effects of G-forces; and thus fuel starvation. Two lines make their way from a 325lph Bosch fuel pump toward a TCP Magic catch can then onto the Toda fuel rail with Sard Fuel regulator.

Tilton Pedals, Defi Tach, Water & Oil Temp, and Oil Pressure.

Spark, Ignition timing, the release of fuel, and seemingly the flow of modern civilization through TCP’s custom wire harness is controlled by an HKS F-Con-V ECU. Other electronic bits include an assortment of Defi gauges; vitals including tachometer, water/oil temp and oil pressure.

An engine alone doesn’t do all the work of getting 500 horses to the ground. Paired with an Exedy Triple-Carbon clutch, a HKS close gear ratio sequential transmission sends the power through a custom drive-shaft into an ATS 1.5 way differential.

The quad rotor RX-7 sporting Samco hoses and catch tanks galore.

A random assortment of parts …a 13 point roll cage, TCP Magic drift knuckles, DG-5 suspension with Swift springs, a dry sump oil system, 18” Gram Lights 57 Extreme Wheels, Bride Seats, and Project Mu drift-initiation rear calipers, and Tilton pedals also make the list of mods. Any one of these go fast bits would headline a normal feature, but here they all clamor for the attention the four-rotor gets.

TCP Magic Aero, Oil Cooler, and the future home of the intercooler.

Now 500 horses might sound diminutive in the world of D1GP, but Kawato promises 1000 ponies at the end of this year. Whiddet’s entry into D1 for this year is only a “spot” entry, selecting only a few key events to attend, but next year’s will be for the full points running. The words twin-turbo were uttered, but we’ll see next year if it’ll be enough to defeat 2JZs in the field.
