Making the Ford F-150 Ecoboost Drive and Tow Smoother with Eibach Shocks

,

Howard then removes the lower shock mount bolts and the upper mount bolts.

With the ball joint loose, the lower control arm can be dropped out of the way and the shock removed.

Howard removes the spring from the shock, compressing the spring with a spring compressor and removing the nut from the top mount. This enables the shock body to be separated from the spring.

You can see that the Eibach shock has a larger diameter.

Considering that it is a Monotube, and the stock shock is a twin tube with the piston inside (a smaller tube inside the main tube), the piston is much bigger. This means it has a larger bearing surface.

The stock spring seat has to be removed from the shock and reused.

Howard stuck it in a vice by the lower eye then uses a mallet to tap the seat loose. We installed the seat on the second from the top groove to raise the front of the truck slightly.
