Previously the APD Acura had the most basic mods like this DC header. |
These plans called for the installation of cams with a slightly more aggressive profile, a modified VTEC actuator to allow more cam angle advance and a stand alone engine management system to allow finite control over the cams and all engine management parameters.

A K&N cold air intake is also used. |
This upgrade pathway had been planned from the start of car development and a number of necessary support components had been installed during the original build consisting of a high flowing K&N Intake System, a DC Sports Race Header, Custom 2.5″ full race exhaust system as well as a complete valvetrain from Supertech Performance.

The team had spent quite a bit of time researching optimum cam profiles and manufacturers looking for the best suited cam for this application in the Honda K24A2 engine at the appropriate price point.
Final choices had come down to either Brian Crower stage 2 cams or Blueprint Racing stage 2 Cams, Brian Crower is the larger of the 2 companies and produces a wider range of overall camshaft applications for various marques which are manufactured in China with a relatively low price point.

The APD Acura was transported by our favorite tow guys at Emergency Hookers to Robert Green and Ben Tran at Blueprint Racing in Walnut, Ca for the cam install. |
Blueprint on the other hand is a small boutique company focusing on a limited number of Honda only camshaft applications and their cam designs are manufactured in Europe, in addition Blueprint has a good history of preparing K series motors for CTCC cars. APD decided that though Blueprint had a slightly higher price point, the benefits of this small specialty company and their direct Honda road race experience outweighed the increased cost factor.

APD chose Blueprint Racing camshafts for the K24 A2 engine due to their racing experience. |
