As a reference example, in a Honda K20 engine, the savings in alternative weight at 12.5mm (0.492”) of lift would be similar to using a valve 35% lighter than a steel valve. A titanium valve is about 40% lighter.
It looks the same on the outside but things are going to get much more serious real soon! |
Additionally the beehive springs are made with custom made oval shaped wire that allows lower coil bind and better stress distribution that increases the reliability of the spring.
IN SUMMARY: With a beehive spring, you can run less pressure and higher rpms with better valvetrain control.
Talk about pro service, AEM Founder John Concialdi and Engineer Mitch Peterson from MP Tuning handled the tuning and install of the AEM EMS Series 2 Plug and Play engine management system. |
With the cams and modified VTEC actuator installed the TSX was off to AEM performance Electronics in Hawthorne, CA for installation of the newly developed AEM Series 2 PnP EMS for the Honda F & K Series motors.
The AEM EMS was truly a plug and play proposition. We mounted it behind the driver. A supplied harness allows the AEM EMS to simply plug into the stock wire harness. |
AEM Founder John Concialdi and Mitchell Pederson of MP tuning handled the EMS install.
To date the only plug and play tunable EMS solution for the Honda K Series has been Hondata’s Kpro system which requires the use of an RSX type S factory ECU and a 2nd Factory ECU modified to the Kpro system as well as a jumper harness supplied by a 3rd party.
This shows where we mounted the AEM EMS by the engine’s Accusump system. |
The new AEM Series 2 EMS is a game changer, it provides a fully tunable Honda K series EMS and plug and play wiring harness in one package. The vehicle dashboard and drive by wire throttle body are controlled by the stock factory ECU and all other engine management functions are controlled by the AEM unit. At the same time the EMS was installed an AEM Wideband UEGO, Real Time, Air Fuel Ratio Gage and Bosch wideband sensor accurate to .1 AFR was installed to assist in the engine tuning process.
