MotoIQ Garage Fabrication – Introduction to Fab

,

Now that we've got our completed box, and I haven't blown myself up, it's time to let the water out.  Luckily, that gas relief hole I made earlier can double as a drainage hole.  For this project, I decided to leave the hole in place to allow for continued drying (we wouldn't want to grow toxic mold in there) and because I didn't want to test my luck with the booze inside.

Finish welded and ready to go. These welds show proper penetration, reasonable HAZ, and decent cosmetic appearance. Notice the lack of soot around the weld from proper pre-cleaning of the workpiece prior to welding.

The last step with any mild steel project, especially one you've exposed to water, is to paint it.  For this project, we wanted Martin to feel like an extra special winner.  Extra special winners get gold trophies.
