Motovicity’s Ticket to Ride Update – Royal Purple

By Mike Kojima

Performance cars need performance oils and filters and our Ticket to Ride vehicles are no exception.  We went with Royal Purple as our supplier of choice for the cars.  We have had plenty of good experience with Royal Purple in our own racing and time attack efforts in the days of the XS Engineering BNR32 and with advances in oil technology we expect the latest offerings from Royal Purple to be even better.

For engine oil we chose Royal Purple HPS Series motor oil.  HPS oil is specifically formulated to maximize performance and meet the demands of high performance and modified engines. HPS is recommended for vehicles no longer under manufacturer warranty and for those seeking a higher level of performance and protection.

This unique blend enables HPS to outperform leading synthetics and conventional lubricants for both gasoline and diesel engines. Royal Purple’s HPS is fortified with a high level of zinc/phosphorus anti-wear additive and Royal Purple’s proprietary Synerlec® additive technology. Available viscosities include: 5W-20, 5W-30, 10W-30, 10W-40 and 20W-50.

Royal Purple HPS Series of motor oil responds to increased pressure with increased viscosity. It’s advanced additive technologies, such as Synerlec, improves the condition of metal-to-metal contact under severe conditions for greater protection.

We selected Royal Purple Extended Life oil filters for our cars.  Royal Purple oil filters provide superior particle removal, high-performance and optimized flow characteristics for maximum performance and longer filter life.

Royal Purple’s filter media uses the latest technology filtration system that filters out particles as small as 25 microns.  The filtering media is 100% synthetic micro-glass for superior particle removal with 99% filtration efficiency at 25 microns and is fully backed by a metal screen for support and high pressure blow out resistance and less flow restriction.

Metal filter element end caps provide a positive seal for filter element assembly while a metal center tube prevents filter element collapse.  In case the filter becomes obstructed a high flow by-pass valve is designed to ensure oil flow in all cases of excessive filter element flow restriction.

The filters have a thicker than typical shell material for extra strength. The heavier shell provides extra security against puncture from road debris and blow out due to high cold oil pressures with racing oil systems. The case features a heavy gauge steel backplate for higher burst strength with a premium nitrile rubber gasket with a special lubricity compound to reduce torque during installation and removal.

A silicone anti-drain back valve prevents dry starts by eliminating oil drain back during shutdown. The silicone anti-drain back valve is soft and pliable allowing it to be leak free and sensitive to changes in pressure. Silicone outperforms and outlasts standard nitrile rubber in both extreme cold and hot oil temperatures.

Royal Purple HPS oil also has exceptionally high film strength for dramatic reductions in engine wear and reduced engine heat to extend the life of your engine.  HPS oil creates improved sealing between the piston ring and cylinder wall which maximizes horsepower and torque and optimizes fuel economy.
HPS also has exceptional oxidation stability extends oil life and allows for more miles driven between oil changes saving you time, money and reducing the impact on the environment.  Unlike many racing oils, HPS’s advanced synthetic solvency reduces engine deposits and keeps engines clean.  HPS protects valvetrains using roller or flat tappet lifters that require added protection due to high lift/ high ramp rate camshafts with it’s extreme pressure additive package.  Unlike many racing oils, HPS provides superior corrosion protection in long term use.

In the near future we will be announcing our Ticket To Ride winners and be following the construction of the cars.  The best is yet to come!
