“My Fiancée’s” Miata: Part 8 – Whiteline Roll Bars and Track Test

,

With the upgraded sway bars, new wheels and old tires, we turned in a best lap of 2:02.09. A pretty sizeable jump over the 2:04.75 we achieved at our last visit. You can see I put 47 miles of track time in sessions by myself. Combining laps where we drove together and Ian drove by himself, we put an incredible 147 miles on the car… on the track… with no issues whatsoever.
It may have been a year ago, but this picture sums up the track season for us in the Midwest. Back to the garages we go to work on projects until Spring arrives.

Areas for improvement? The added grip of old summer tires negated the reduction of roll by the Whiteline sway bars, so there’s plenty of room for improvement there. Knowing fresh tires would only make the situation worse, something more drastic with the suspension will have to be done. The car does not like to make high speed transitions and probably loses time on track because of this. To top it all off, the wallowy Bilstein suspension doesn’t translate to a nice smooth ride on the street. It’s harsh and crashes into bumps. Not great on the street or track, the worst of both worlds. Lastly, the chassis is still more flexi than I’d like. On track it’s not noticeable at all, but the amount of cowl shake is pretty significant when cruising around and unlikely to improve on its own. What’s a project car without having projects to work on. Until next time!
