Nitto NT01 Tires in R35 GT-R Specific Sizes

The sidewall for the NT01 has a high turn up which means that the plys that help form the tire’s bead that wrap around the bead are extended upward, about halfway up the sidewall.  This gives the sidewall significant stiffness which helps hold the tires contact patch flat on the road under severe cornering loads.

The carcass of the NT01 is designed for high speed running with minimal heat build-up.  This is important for a heavy ultra-high-performance car like a GT-R.

Unlike most passenger car tires that use polyester body plies in the carcass, the NT01 uses Rayon for its heat resistance. In addition, the NT01 uses two steel belts with an aramid cap ply that reduces growth at high speeds further reducing the running temperature.

We installed a 315/30-20 NT01 on the back of our own Project GT-R

The wheel we used was an Advan RZ-DF in 20×12 with a 20mm offset.  We thought this would be a fairly aggressive fitment.

The fit with this combination was about as good as it gets!

With this combination, there was absolutely no rubbing on the inside or outside of the tire.  No fender rolling or anything was needed, a good thing because we don’t want to hack up the fenders of an expensive car if we can help it.

We put a 285/35-20 NT01 in the front on an Advan RZ-DF in 20×10 with a 35mm offset.

The RZ-DF is a lightweight forged Rays wheel.

    1. I don’t think the R888 was that loud for these sizes and the NT01 is about the same. I sort of think if you are that worried about tire noise then this sort of car and a mild DOT race tire probably isn’t for you! If noise is a priority you can go to tire rack and look at their tire matrix, they have proving grounds and test a lot of things there. You can pick a low noise UHP tire there.

  1. Mike, once the GTR is done and you guys tweak the suspensions to your liking, do you foresee problems related to the oil pick, starvation and what not due to the higher grip?
As mentioned above, it would be nice to test the old Toyo R888, the NT-01 and the new R888R…..

    1. I don’t think so as many racing GT-R’s on slicks with big aero don’t seem to have an issue with this. The engine is a semi-dry sump, sort of like a Porsche 9A1 engine.

  2. I totally agree, and I currently am on the r888 in my DD gtr 🙂 I have friends who use the MPSS as the “lower” noise option.

  3. This was in reply to my other post about tire noise, sorry for any confusion, this commenting system forced my back to the main page to enter my email/name….

  4. Hey just wanted to check if running the staggered NT01 285/35R20 front and 315/30R20 rear is suitable in stock 2009 gtr rims and stock suspension?
