NX GTi-R The Search For Traction – Part Two

,

While doing this I have also started working on a better oil catch can setup to ensure that there is proper venting from the valve cover and crankcase. Hopefully that is something that will simply add to the ongoing reliability of the car. Then I hope to get my Go Fast Bits Electronic Boost Controller, version 2, hooked up and installed. I have really liked the version 1 GFB EBC that has been installed for about three years now. Except for when it comes to adjusting settings and then I am all thumbs; Version 2 is supposed to be a vast improvement.

While the search for traction has been an ongoing quest, May 2014 I lost a turbo. And that started me down the twists and turns that have been detailed here. LOL! I picked up another OEM GTi-R turbo in London from fellow GTi-R enthusiast Stephen Robertson. Already mounted on the new to me turbo is the downpipe that Aaron crafted for me.

Time has passed and it was now December, snow was inevitable, and my wife reminded me that her car gets the garage in winter. That is an agreement we made ages ago. The car was still not ready to fire up, so I made a couple of adjustments on the hot side piping and on the uppipe that I got Will at PZ Tuning to weld for me, simply because I didn't have time to get everything back to Aaron's shop. The timing was as close as it could be, as I fitted everything in place, tightened everything up, and moved the car into winter storage when that night, literally, two inches of snow fell. Even a Nismo LSD will not help the NX move on a snowy incline with bald performance tires.

Thanks to Will and Noreen at PZ Tuning for their help in getting a set of Volks TE37s. 15×8 with an offset of 25 and they clear the Fastbrakes BBK nicely. I'm thinking Hankook Z214s would be a nice touch. It's been a few years since those have been on the NX – the last time at CTMP with Z214s and the GA16 engine it did a 1:47.625 lap. What's possible with the SR20DET and almost 300 whp?

To wrap things up, the search for traction with my Nissan NX is getting closer to completion. The current Infiniti G20 transmission should be out and the Sentra B15 transmission and new to me Nismo LSD should be in place by March. Then all that is left is the aero … after all, the car has to have aero! Doesn't it?

The GFB G-Force Electronic Boost Controller will be upgraded to the GFB G-Force II EBC. They booth offer great performance, but the GFB G-Force II provides a much better interface. It comes with everything required to hook up and run boost!
Spring is still a few months away. My Honda snowblower is getting more use, even though flurrypocalypse didn't happen in the North East states or here in Ontario. Dave recently helped me out and we gave it a thorough tune-up. New spark plug, rebuilt the carburetor, new auger and drive belts, oil and lube and it's all ready for whatever Mother Nature throws at us. Hopefully, it's not much because I'm waiting for spring. I'm hosting a track day at CTMP on May 8 – and the NX will be ready!
