Pikes Peak 2022, Redemption for Team Evasive and the Model 3 Tesla-Part 2

A Brembo GT Pista kit was used.  Being 3800 lbs and without the benefit of any sort of compression or regenerative braking, the car is really hard on the brakes.  Note the big 4-piston caliper and the huge 380mm rotor.  Notice the little Wilwood mechanical caliper for a parking brake? Evasive machined the adaptor for this part.

The front shock is a KW Motorsports 3-way EXR shock with adjustable high and low-speed compression and rebound damping.  Being so heavy and aerodynamically dependent super high spring rates are needed.  The shock has to produce almost unheard-of levels of damping force but KW came through and did special valving that works like a charm.  The upper control arm is by Mountain Pass Performance.

The front Brembo Pista kit has a big 6-piston caliper.  The front rotor is a huge 405mm with a wide annulus.  Brembo’s higher mass, high thermal capacity rotors are used.  The Evasive team has started using brake pads by Counterspace Garage.  So far these pads have given superior results and are an industry secret.  If you need the most from your brakes give them a call!

  1. Very cool! Congrats to Dai and the team! BEV has come a long way, and this format is perfect for the current state of battery tech. Exciting times!

  2. Mike, these Pikes Peak race support stories are the best. When you talk about this car reaching the damping limits of conventional shocks, what are you options when that happens?

    1. since we were using the stiffest commercially available springs, fortunately this was not an issue. If we had to somehow go stiffer, I would have to find another manufacturer and possibly do something like off-road shocks that have bigger pistons and more fluid flow.
