Pikes Peak 2022, Redemption for Team Evasive and the Model 3 Tesla-Part 2

We even had some spare time, a first in the world of motorsports!  We decided to go to the famous landmark Broadmore Hotel and check out the Pikes Peak museum.  What caught my eye was one of Nobu “Monster” Tajima’s twin-engine Suzuki SX4s.  Tajima san has won Pikes Peak 7 times.

This Offy-powered roadster was driven by several members of the Unser family.  Besides kicking butt in Indy car racing the Unsers used to own the Pikes Peak event!

Rhys Millen’s PM580 was on display as well.  We did a feature on this car way back in the day.

Next, it was off to the Fan Fest, the city of Colorado Springs closes off downtown and the cars and a lot of other stuff are on display.  This is the city’s biggest event all year and thousands of people come out.  Covid canceled Fan Fest for the last two years so there seemed to be even bigger crowds than in previous years for this event.  Here is our car on display, it was a big hit with the fans, especially kids who seem to love Teslas.

  1. Very cool! Congrats to Dai and the team! BEV has come a long way, and this format is perfect for the current state of battery tech. Exciting times!

  2. Mike, these Pikes Peak race support stories are the best. When you talk about this car reaching the damping limits of conventional shocks, what are you options when that happens?

    1. since we were using the stiffest commercially available springs, fortunately this was not an issue. If we had to somehow go stiffer, I would have to find another manufacturer and possibly do something like off-road shocks that have bigger pistons and more fluid flow.
