Project 5.0 Mustang: Getting More Power and Durability with Ford Racing

,

The MLS head gasket has a coating of synthetic rubber around the areas where sealing against water leaks is important. It also has a folded stopper for blowout resistance and an extra layer of steel around the cylinders to stop combustion pressure leakage. This is a pretty awesome gasket!
Ford supplies these torque to yield head bolts which are higher strength than the stock parts. Torque to yield bolts give consistent clamping force and do not ever require re-torquing but must be replaced every time they are loosened.
We are going to replace the stock oil pump which is a weak point above 7700 rpm with this Cobra Jet part.  The Cobra Jet oil pump has billet steel gears and is safe for over 8000 rpm.
Our final piece is not a performance part at all but a dress up part.  It is a Blue coil cover from a Boss 302R/Cobra Jet engine.  This is the same coil cover found on the high powered (500+ HP) Ford Racing Aluminator XS crate engines.  Our engine will pretty much replicate that but with slightly higher compression.

With our top end and oiling system taken care of we are now researching our options for the bottom end.  We will probably be upping our compression ratio to 11.5:1 and are looking into rod and even crank availability.

Stay tuned our 5.0 Mustang is going to be a Naturally Aspirated monster!
