Project C7 Corvette Stingray, Fitting the Widest Possible Titan 7 Wheels and Toyo R888R Tires

  • Mike Kojima

The front 18×10.5 wheels were a feathery 19 pounds, 13 oz.

For a replacement tire, we choose the Toyo R888R.  The R888R is a racing rated DOT legal tire that has its bias more toward longer life and multiple heat cycles. This makes it more of a grassroots race tire that is durable and long lasting before ultimate speed, but it also makes it a pretty damn good summer dry road ultra high performance street tire. Most exotic and many semi-exotic cars are spec’d with tires like this, so don’t sweat the race tire moniker. You are not going to get 30,000 street miles and all weather performance out of these tires, but you won’t get that sort of mileage out of the stock tires either!

For the front tire we chose a 295/30-18 which is much wider than the stock 245/35-19.

For the rear we chose a 325/30-19 which again is much wider than the stock 285/30-20.

The R888R is an evolution of the still available R888 with a blockier tread pattern that puts more rubber on the road for better dry grip and a different tread compound that comes up to operating temperature faster and has better grip.

Say what? You got mad poke going on there up front. And the weight issue? Any amount you gained over stock is so tiny as to be laughable. I dunno, jump the shark much?

Look at the pictures at ride height. We just reported the weight and the differences, you have a problem with that?

I think it is a stretch to say the stock tire has had 3lbs of rubber worn off, but who cares? The contact patch gain is going to make big results and it was done as with as little weight gain as possible. Looking awesome is a bonus too.

Because of me being involved in Pro Drifting and us measuring how much the tires weight decreases due to wear, I have a pretty good feel for this.

I too was questioning this logic.
But since you mentioned formula drift I guess you would have an easy way to measure after a tire shredding session. LOL

Yeah, we didn’t run any faster because the bigger tires made enough grip to fade our brakes to nothing in less than a lap. So we are in search of better brake pads.

Bookmarked this setup. My Z51 is putting down 625 hp on stock tires and I’ll need to level up. Wasnt sure what i’d need to do to accept wider tires w/o a wide-body.

Will this wheel/tire package fit on a stock Z51 suspension?
Seems like it would since parts are same, except for bushings.

Quick question, was the ride height of the car lowered or did you stay with the OEM stock height?

Amazing work on this C7. curious about the rear fender lip trimming. i am having the same issue today with my C7 Z06. based on your description and the pics that were provided is there anything else you would recommend “prep, orbital sander, grit, etc..” how much material did you remove. thanks.

This is what I’ve been trying to find… It looks phenomenal! I want to go with 18/19’s on mine and this is exactly the type of thing that I needed to see.

Are those OEM front fenders, or Z06? For those asking about rear fender trimming, I would imagine that if you went to slightly skinnier rear tire like a 305/30-19, you could probably get away with not trimming… I would also imagine that at stock ride height or even slightly lowered, contact wouldn’t be as big of a concern, especially for cars that only see street duty and don’t hit the track.

I forgot to ask; what alignment specs are you guys running with this setup? I’m guessing that you went with a decent amount of camber up front? Thanks!
