Project FR-S, Fixing the original tune with Church Automotive Testing

Although our goal was not at all to get any more power, the tune got more power and torque above 4800 rpm with less drop-off after 7000 rpm.  We also gained 18 lb/ft of torque. The before tuning power is the pink line and was a pull before that water in the intercooler was very hot.  The power fell off considerably after that. The power after tuning was after many pulls and representative of how the power should stay, fixing, for the most part, the lack of power once the engine was hot.

With the help of Church Automotive Testing, our car is now running much more safely and more consistently even when hot.  We will not be having problems with it at our next track outing.  If your car was tuned in the early days of ECUTEK for this motor platform, it might be a good idea for you to revisit your tune as well!

  1. Wow. I had no idea DI made such a difference in detonation resistance; those AFRs were crazy lean!

Does this mean that OEM direct injected calibrations for turbo motors are probably just running in the 13s and 14s all the time (including WOT) in the pursuit of fuel efficiency and emissions and pulling timing as needed when any knock is detected?

    1. Those are the OEM plugs and also the best for racing in a different heat range. They resist erosion the best.
