Project Hyper Miler Jetta MKIV TDI Part 4, Upgrading the Turbo with Garrett

We were not kidding about hammers. The “hammer mod” is how you adjust your injector quantity, and it should only be done with VCDS connected. The reason for this is that the amount of movement required to adjust the value is minuscule, measured in the thousands of an inch. You have to loosen the 4 bolts that hold down the top of the injector pump, and shift it side to side to move the value back and forth. You also have to have a special socket because three of them are Torx and the 4th is this strange, triangle-shaped security socket that you have to special order from a VW parts specialist.

Luckily for us, KERMATDI sent us one of the weird VW specific tools in the box with the injectors and the puller. We would have had to go all shade-tree on it if we hadn’t had that little guy.
Here you can see Ralf, his hammer and piece of wood to protect the injector pump.  He is adjusting the top of the injector pump, hence the hammer mod!
Much better! These adjustments are done with the car running, and you could hear the idle smooth out as the number came into the desired range. The car sounded much better!
Here Ralf tightens everything back up.
You know you’re at a VW shop when they have a Transporter outside.

  1. The car is currently running some Koni Orange shocks and mk4 springs from Nuespeed. I believe it’s the SofSport kit, but I’m not sure, it’s been a minute.
