Project V8 RX-7: Part 9 – The Exhaust

,

They looked like they might be a problem, but the E-ROD’s exhaust manifolds wound up clearing the RX-7’s frame rails with a little room to spare.

Just like we shaved down the bottom of the bellhousing to provide better ground clearance, there just wasn’t another practical way of fitting the primary catalytic converter on the driver’s side without getting out the cutting wheel and grinder.  The Sharpee marks show the amount that had to be removed.  While it looks like a lot, the bellhousing’s flange is super beefy and there’s still plenty of material left on that thing.

With the bellhousing’s flange massaged to fit the catalytic converter we’re able to better utilize the limited amount of space we have to work with and bring the cat up high enough to provide adequate ground clearance.
