Loren uses Spidertrax Spider 9 axles front and rear. These are then further modified by Jimmy’s 4×4 to take the abuse of rock crawling. By adding a truss across the top, stress from one side of the axle is spread to the other side and makes it more solid, if you'll excuse the pun. It also gives the upper links a place to mount for the four link suspension. The rear sees a truss at bottom of the axle while also adding a rock guard at the pinion.

Loren’s truck, like many that compete in the unlimited category of Ultra4, uses a fully hydraulic steering system. This system is what allows these guys to turn those huge tires and power through a rock obstacle. He uses a PSC Extreme Series Axle kit along with massive toe links to control the steering of those front tires. The bar running under the steering ram is there to protect the steering ram as much as possible while he slams into the rocks.

Another unique feature in off road truck racing are limiting straps and bump stops. Yes, we can see those in other motorsports but the sheer size we’re talking about in off road truck racing is on another level. When you look at the King Shocks bump stops, you start to really see how massive they are. At 2.5 inches in diameter, they are larger than most dampers used in on road racing.

To control the suspension as it travels through the bumps of the desert and impacts of the rocks during the crawling portion, King Shocks are employed once again at all four corners and all eight shocks. The coil-over is the Pure Race 2.5 with a reservoir. It’s a 2.5 inch diameter damper that features a 2024 aluminum alloy piston with heat treated stainless alloy valve shims. The large 1 inch diameter shafts are hardened to about 55-60 on the Rockwell scale and micro-polished for extended seal life. While King Shocks do come with springs, Loren prefers to use PAC Racing Springs in a dual rate setup.

The bypass damper is the Pure Race Piggyback 3.0 Bypass on the front while the rear uses 2.5 Bypass dampers. The front features a four tube bypass while the rear features two. The front bypass controls three stages of compression and a single rebound at certain sections of the piston travel. The bypass shocks feature longer travel than the coil-over shocks.

Interestingly, Loren’s truck also uses a rear sway bar to control body roll. You would think that employing sway bars at all would hinder the truck’s ability to climb rocks but that didn’t seem to be the case for Loren using only a rear bar which came from PAC Racing Springs.
