The engine used in Loren's truck is the tried and true GM LS7, which is a perfect choice. Thanks to already being a dry sump engine that is an expense you don’t have to worry with right away. Not only that, but since the bottom of the engine is flatter you have room for the four link setup and the oil has little chance of sloshing away from the pickup as your get nearly inverted on the harder rock trails. The engine is cranked over by an MSD Dyna Force Starter.
The power is then sent to a Turbo-Hydramatic 400 three-speed auto that is shifted using an Art Carr gated shifter.
From there that torque is then sent to an Advance Adapters Atlas two-speed transfer case. These transfer cases are custom built to the exact specifications of what you need with gear ratios as low as 5.0:1.
Loren's setup uses a twin stick shifter for engaging the 4 Wheel Drive, the left stick does the front wheels while the right does the rear. Pulling straight back will engage the high gear setting, middle will put the Atlas in to neutral, pushing the sticks all the way forward will engage low gear. Here is an interesting technique it allows. By putting the transfer case in front low only, you can navigate around rocks without getting the rear involved at all. So you can move the front of the truck in the direction you want without the push of the rear wheels.
To bring rig to a halt, you need some serious stopping power! Loren’s truck uses 6 piston Wilwood calipers front and rear. The rotors are Spidertrax 14 inch solid disc rotors that are slotted and cross drilled on Spidertrax 6061 T6 aluminum brake hats. This system is designed by Spidertrax for their Spider 9 axles.
To make sure Loren starts his truck after every pit, a pair of Optima Red Top batteries are there to ensure sufficient power. One acts as the primary and the other as backup.
That extra battery power comes in handy when you're using the Warn 9.5cti-s! You don't know when you'll need it and you'll regret losing power when you do.
