Targa Trophy Road Rally Stage 1

Targa Trophy Road Rally Stage 1

 By Aaron Guardado

Last Saturday started off a little bit different than the rest. Usually it would start bright and early with a trip to Cars and Coffee in Irvine, followed by a leisurely drive down PCH. This time it would be different, our morning was spent applying decals to the car before the morning drive. Why? Because we were about to enter the first stage of the Targa Trophy Triple Crown Road Rally Series. The Targa Trophy Road Rally is a strategic drive involving checkpoints, strict turn-by-turn routes and a herd of exotic vehicles. The goal being to accurately hit all checkpoints while keeping your drive time down to a minimum. Winning the big trophy requires not only a fast car and decent navigation, but a keen strategy to complete the stages within the allotted time frame and mileage.

The short but distinguished guest list included Ferraris, Bentleys, Porsches, Lamborghinis, BMWs, Maseratis and Skylines.  Not to mention our VIP entry, a Mercedes CLK63 Black Series provided by BBI Autosport and Sunday Rocks Clothing.  Drivers from all over the California map added to the diversity of the event.  Shortly after getting acquainted with the drivers and rules at the driver's meeting we set off on our journey.  First stop, the Imago Gallery in Palm Springs, where we ate lunch and talked with the other drivers about the first leg of the rally.
