Next the spring and seat are installed in the car. |
After installing the suspension at GSR Motorsports, Mike reports to us that he likes the suspension very much. The ride quality is good, with the ride firmer but more controlled than the stock stuff which was somewhat soft and floaty.
You can see how the spring seat is retained positively by this peg on the chassis. |
Mike also reported that the balance was very good and the car had less tendency to understeer at the limit while not being prone to over rotation or excessive oversteer. Mike reported that at the absolute limit the car had a slight tendency to bounce but he was being very critical and that only high end expensive dampers would be better.
The new ST shocks have a shorter rod to ensure that the shorter lower spring will not come loose at full droop. |
Mike said that as a daily driver suspension he was very pleased with the ST Suspension units and that the suspension would be fine for occasional track use. As a top pro in the drifting and road racing world we will weigh his opinion very heavily.
The old bump stops were hammered and the car’s previous owner put in these hacked up homemade upper shock mounts so Mike replaced them with some used OEM parts he had at his shop. Mike does a lot of BMW work so there are a lot of good used parts handy. |
Mike dummy assembles stuff before installing. |
Putting the new used stock parts on the ST Suspension shocks. |
The shock in place. The car is now ready to rock. It can now sport a lower ride height while maintaining good ride and handling. |
For a good value quality suspension that is versatile, street comfortable while still being track capable, one that can lower the car while maintaining a good ride quality with good handling the ST Suspension kit is pretty hard to beat.
