We had to get used to this view of JR after just a few events.

MK- What do you do for practice and training?

JR- I have 65 acres out back of my house that I have access to play on. I have a few RWD cars and AWD cars that I get nuts in when I have time. I also play some pretty good driving simulator video games. It all keeps the hand-eye coordination flowing and staying in the seat is important no matter what you’re flogging. I have a pretty good training routine that help my mind and my body stay ready to rock as well. I try to eat proper, however I love food and it just so happens the bad stuff is sooo good! I do eat proper religiously leading up to events.

Dai Yoshihara was seemingly one of the only other pros who could consistently carry the fight to the JR onslaught for 2010.  What’s going to happen in 2011?  Everyone is going to come to the table packing bigger guns!

MK- Do you like and/or participate in other forms of motorsports besides drifting? Are you thinking of doing other things like rallycross or road racing?

JR- Drifting has been keeping me so busy and it is my passion and priority. I was able to go do an off road truck race this year; I also did a few road races in 2009. Rally cross looks like a lot of fun and hopefully it will grow like I see it could. I have a close eye on it however, until there is obvious value to solicit support, I’ll continue honing my skills outback of my house! I also think short-course truck racing is awesome. I think either would be fun and challenging, coming from motocross and drifting both really suit my style and skill set. Road racing is fun and takes skill to do, it’s just not really my style, and to be honest it gets to be to repetitive and I’m not really interested in a form of motorsport where I have to hold back for 85% of the time. The constant excitement and suspense of drifting is hard to match. I’m not saying you won’t ever see me road racing again, I’m just saying it’s not something I see in the near future.

The Monster Energy/Falken Tire Mustang built by ASD is a technological terror.  Perhaps the most technically advanced drift machine ever built, it features lots of power, a dry carbon skin and sophisticated suspension.
