VIDEO: Climb – Pikes Peak Hill Climb with a Monster

Another video by our buddy Skylar Smith.  This one was cool because we were there and it shows all of the stuff we didn’t get to see.  We were camped out by the starting line so that we could do a tech feature on Nobuhiro Tajima’s Monster Suzuki hill climb special.

The Monster was so fast we didn’t get but a fleeting glimpse of it as it shot off down the mountain.  Our buddies at Falken Tire had equipped the Monster with about 8 on board GoPro cameras and all of our comrades from Falken’s race support group took to the hill each with their own GoPro to try and capture some of the off car video.

We could not find a single normal looking Skylar photo, this was about as good as it got.

Falken’s race crew endured high altitude sickness, lack of toilets, dehydration, snow, hail and rain to each capture their 5 seconds or so of video. Skylar was shooting HD footage all week, then spliced together bits from all of the GoPros, his footage and some helicopter footage to make this cool video.

We liked the on car car footage, especially the camera in between the two rear venturi tunnels.  You can see the swirling vortex of the air as it exits the tunnels, a demo of aero at work.  Enjoy one of our favorite of many videos shot at Pikes Peak this year.
