What’s In My Pack?

,

This plastic box is full of baby buttwipes or the angel tongue as we like to call them.  These are super handy at the track because it's hard to wash your hands and or face properly.  Track bathrooms are often totally disgusting outhouses and you need to sanitize them just to use them. Track toilet paper is usually some cheap stuff that sandpapers your ass.  Having this stuff makes taking a field dump a lot less disgusting. Get some hand sanitizer and clean the seat, wipe off with one of these babies and you are good to go.  It beats trying to pinch off a deuce all day as we are usually at the track 16 – hours or more on a good day…  Seriously this is one of the most handy things you can possibly carry.  Your ass will probably actually smell ok at the end of the day.
I also carry some Team Falken towels and a gangsta bandanna. The towels come in handy for everything from cleaning my glasses to filtering my air.  The spotters stand can get really smoky in places like The Wall and Irwindale and I use the bandana to cover my mouth so I don't breath so much dust and tire particles.  I could use a mask but the bandanna looks less dorky.
Next is my protective gear.  In the rare case that I have to help in a serious accident in a 5 minute competition time out,  I use some Kevlar sleeves to protect my arms around hot stuff.  I also have heat resistant Nomex and Kevlar Mechanix gloves as well.  We don't have time to let stuff cool down and I have seen guys get serious burns working on cars in situations like this where speed is critical.  I also use some Tony Hawk knee pads and some Oakley safety glasses when I wear contacts.  Stuff you don't see that I carry is a package of Kleenex, bottles of water and drinks, snacks, radio, headphones, extra radio battery and my PLX Devices Kiwi CANBUS Bluetooth dongle for using my cell phone as a scan tool.  Our Formula D cars don't use this but other cars I work on do.  I also have several large plastic bins and a Pelican case that come with me in our rig that have some specialized chassis tools but we will get into those another time.
If you got to a Formula D event, these are the cars I am responsible for.  The first is, Darren “Dmac” McNamara in the Falken Tire S14 , built by Scott Dodgion of SPD Motorsports.

The second is the Discount Tire/ Falken Tire S13 of Dai Yoshihara also built by SPD Motorsports.  We are working hard this year to try to bring another Championship home for Falken.  Hopefully I will see you on the Formula D circuit.

So far the 2013 season is looking good for us, we qualified 1-2 in Long Beach with Dai winning and Darren coming in 6th and 5th in overall points.  Darren might have done much better but a starting line red flag mishap caused him to get gapped and eliminated in top 16.  Some time soon I will show you what the rest of my tools on the road look like.  Hope you enjoyed this one.
