ALMS – Laguna Seca Race Weekend

With all the attention being centered around the close championship race between Dyson Racing and Muscle Milk AMR, the #007 of Aston Martin Racing surprised fans with a decisive win in LMP1.  The Aston Martin powered Lola B09/60 completed 3 more laps than the second place Dyson Racing team.

With Dyson Racing taking pole position, the Muscle Milk team needed to have an almost flawless race in order to have any real shot at the season championship.  Unfortunately those hopes went out the window early in the race when the #6 pitted with oil pressure issues.  The team was not able to diagnose and fix the problem in the pits, so the decision was made to take the car to the garage where more hands could work on it.  It was a good decision, as the team was able to fix the problem and get the car back on the track to complete the necessary 70% of the race needed to collect championship points.

Though they did finish the race and were able to collect points it was not enough to hold off the Dyson team's charge for the championship.  The #16 of Dyson Racing finished second, behind the #007 of Aston Martin Racing, which gives them a 32 point lead in the championship race.  With only 30 championship points available in the season finale at Petit Le Mans in a couple weeks, Dyson Racing clinched the LMP1 Championship.

A “team move” was made late in the race when Dyson Racing called in their #20 LMP1 car for an abnormally long pit.  The #20 was running in 2nd place when it was called in to make time to allow the #16 sister car to catch up and pass.  The #16 car of Dyson Racing was able to finish in 2nd place and collect enough points to clinch the LMP1 season championship.

Level 5 Motorsports debuted their new Honda Performance Development ARX-01g at Laguna Seca and had a flawless race.  No unscheduled pit stops had to be made and the sole LMP2 entry finished 4th overall.

VIVA LAS MEXICO!!!  Friday was the 201st anniversary of Mexico's independence and some of the teams found creative ways to join in the celebration.  The #6 CORE Autosport LMPC entry was even sporting special “Viva Mexico” livery.  These guys are serious about their racing, but still find time to have a little fun.
