The next day was quite busy. The Berganholtzes were annoyed at my coughing and made me wear a JDM mask. Japanese are very polite and germ conscious so if you are sick in Japan, it is considered to be very bad manors to cough in public. When you are sick, you are supposed to wear a special mask so you recycle your own germs and air. It is actually a pretty good idea and people wont see the snot dripping down your face or your red and irritated nose.
We took a bus to the famous Motegi Twin Ring race track, this took several hours and was a good foray into the beautiful Japanese countryside, most of which I missed in a fever induced stupor. Arriving at the track, we were in for a treat. Nitto Tire and Razo had arranged for us to get rides and drive an assortment of tuner cars on a small secondary track. We were also treated to a drift demo by several professional drifters including, surprise, Daijiro Yoshihara. I was feeling to sick to drive and just sat taking a few pictures.

It is very impolite to be sick in public in Japan, if you must go out while sick, you should wear a mask. Japanese freak out if they see you sniffling and coughing without one of these. |

Motegi has an assortment of go-kart tracks ranging from little kiddy electric karts to actual race karts powered by OHV Honda motors. Of course we signed up for the advanced karts. I was smack talking Ed Berganholtz because I was sure he didn’t know how to turn. Ed passed me after two laps. I was doing a barely passable job holding off Ron Berganholtz when I spun out trying to pass a backmarker. It ended up Ed first, Ron second and me third. Ron’s wife Char ended up beating everyone in her run group, she can really drive.
