Automotive Performance, in the age of Covid-19

Fast forward to April 2nd, 2020 when distributors are emailed a notice from AccuAir that they are closing their doors indefinitely. We may not know the intimate details of why AccuAir closed their doors, but we can surmise that some of the factors listed above could have been the nail in the coffin for them. This is sad news to hear in our industry and we are fearful for other brands to start following suit and never return.

The racing side of the industry has been hit really hard with every series we can think of canceling there schedules till at least mid may. With racing come huge orders of parts from pistons and bearings to suspension and tires.

There is some light at the end of the tunnel, some companies are reporting decent sales as quarantine orders have given many people time to tinker with there pet project cars in their garages. Some companies have changed gears and started producing items that are in higher demand than almost anything else on the market, medical supplies. Companies like IAG are making medical shields and KSport has started designing parts for ventilators. Brands like this see the demand and they are making a supply. These are the efforts that will keep a brand alive, and save millions of lives in the process.

These brands and the people behind them are what make our industry amazing. They are the reason why we all do what we do. So if you see a brand close in the next few months, please do not dance on their grave and say “they should have known better” because the fact of the matter is, no one knew better, and it’s our job to make sure to support those who have supported us. Mourn the brand for what it was and continue to support those who stay through this pandemic. Now more than ever is the time to fight for one another to succeed and not wish ill will. Together we can rebuild this industry. Stay positive.
