Celebration of Motorsport

,

There's nothing like a bit of fireworks to add some excitement to the day. And this fire belching rotary managed a few flames throughout the day. This RX8 ran in GT4 and was on the podium! It's a 2010 and driven by Marlin Langeveldt.

Some masterful driving – and a bit of luck – enabled Steve Bodrug, the racer in this 1993 Van Diemen RF93, to finish off Turn 2 backwards and then continue the race. No contact with anyone else and I'm not even sure he went outside of the white lines!

Racing is serious business and incidents do happen. Two cars were involved here and the safety crews, the paramedics, the marshals, and the recovery vehicles were all there in moments. I arrived on the infield right after it happened, and it took me several moments before I realized that two cars were involved. I hope you can appreciate that I'm not showing any pictures of the accident itself. Tension and concern was high – I happened to be standing with the both the wife and mother of one of the drivers. They were obviously relieved when they got a wave from him. The onlookers applauded as both drivers walked to the ambulance on their own. I wish them a quick recovery from their bumps and bruises.

Motorsport Marshalling Services provided the professional marshals for this event. One looking down track, one looking up track, and one in constant radio communication with the tower. Everyone was well looked after.

Bob's Towing provides the recovery service. They have a great team! While it may look like there was an event for Flatbeds, this was just a break in the action while the trucks were being moved to the proper locations around the track.  I don't know about you, but it does give me ideas about another class!

The lunchtime action was a number of Ontario Time Attack drivers and cars out on the track to showcase another form of racing. Here Rick Arbour, yellow and black Honda, is leading Stephen Deneka, Subaru, through Turn 2. This was to show the spectators that you did not require a purpose built race car to enjoy the race track, but that Ontario Time Attack provided an opportunity to get your street car onto a historic track. My wife and I were camping at the top of the hill, overlooking corners two and three. This is a great family outing – as long as your family enjoys motorsports!
The Canadian Tire Motorsport Park Event Centre is on the left, garages, paddock, restaurant are all spread to the right of the Event Centre. The scoring tower, visible throughout a lot of the grounds, shows the first five places, lap number, and the remaining time left in the race.

For family enjoyment, there are several children's playgrounds available, washrooms and showers available at different parts of the property, and great camping spots. Racing action during the day and then an evening campfire with stories and relaxing under the beautiful night stars. All for a reasonable entry fee. Or make the entry fees even more reasonable and become a team crew member or a track marshal with MMS!
