Dai Does it Again! Yoshihara and Bonanni Win MPTCC TU and TO Championships at NAFOS

Saturday's winner Randy Gibb had some bad luck with a failed hood latch causing an aborted start on Sunday's race.

At the green, Yoshihara was caught sleeping and fell to 5th by the first turn as Smith jumped into a commanding lead.  Dai charged through the field with Steve Rockwood in the MotoIQ G20 in tow setting the fastest race lap and breaking the lap record in the process.  Rockwood had just installed a turbo to the Infiniti’s SR20DE engine and it was proving to be pretty fast at carving up the Hondas and Acuras in the way.

Dai Yoshihara was on the pole for the start of Saturday's race.  However he was either asleep or suffering from the aftermath of SEMA week and really blew the start dropping all the way to 5th place by the first turn!

Soon Dai was challenging Brian for the lead and was making passing attempts at nearly every other turn.  Smith was going full defensive to hold onto the lead while Rockwood was sitting in third within striking distance letting the leaders use up their tires and brakes.  At one point while going door to door on the oval, Smith forced Yoshihara high on the wall up into the marbles in turn one.  The Sentra then went into a spectacular 130 mph drift with the back of the car just grazing the wall while door to door.

Once awake Dai carved through the field like a knife through hot butter dueling with Brian Smith in some spectacular close racing culminating in Dai doing an awesome 130 mph door to door superspeedway drift in NASCAR Turn 1.  Dai was not phased and continued to pressure the fast APD car.  Steve Rockwood used his turbo power to follow Dai through the pack and lay in wait in a close third place before his trannny blew.

Of course this is normal work for the Formula D champ and Dai did not back off one bit, just holding the high speed drift through the turn.  This reporter has never seen anyone get that sideways on a banked super speedway and recover.

The ever improving MotoIQ B Team Infiniti G20 proved to be very competitive.  A bulletproofed G20 P11 transmission will be installed in the car soon.

Alas, Rockwood’s tranny blew third gear on the 4th lap, letting Richard Ho and the APM RSX charge up along with Randy Gibb in another RSX, closing the distance to the leaders.

We thought that Tom Felt's S2K was going to walk away with it all but surprisingly the FWD Sedans proved to be more than a match for the Honda sportscar.
