Dai Yoshihara’s 2018 Formula Drift Rebuild Continued!

,

A custom 5″ exhaust vents exhaust gasses to the rear of the car. A titanium skid plate protects the Winters differential from impacts on very bumpy courses like Orlando and Wall.

A top view of the rear bay shows the rear mounted radiator, the vent tank for the dry sump system, the fuel filler and the wing mounts.

The wing mounts are almost a moot point because FD has banned wings for safety at most of the current tracks. Any course where the wing could easily hit a wall. The tubular structure is the quickly accessible rear jacking point.

The black thing is the Mezier electric water pump which feed the large rear mounted radiator. Going to an electric water pump has improved cooling and freed up space and clutter in the engine compartment, as well as moved a few pounds from the very front of the car to the rear.

These relocation tricks are responsible for the cars respectable 51/49% weight distribution. Pretty impressive considering that the heavy turbo is still pretty far forward in the car. The current weight distribution is impressive considering that it was an FWD like 60/40% when the car was first built!

The BRZ's odd core support and sheetmetal fender supports have been replaced with this tubular structure to save weight, improve repairability and make more room for stuff in the front of the car.

The cars interior tin work has been replaced with carbon fiber to save weight. The car has been put on a diet and has shed over 200 lbs since its debut in 2014. It is now only slightly overweight.
