Driver Profiles: Emme Hall

What is the most gnarly thing you've ever done, in or out of a car?

Well, I once got pulled over in my first miata dressed like a nun.  That's not really gnarly, just funny.

At the USA 500 this year I drove at night for the first time.  It was a loop course and by this time all the cars had been through this one section 3 times.  What was a small silt bed at 10am had turned into 4 or 5 MILES of silt.  Powder fine silt.  Deep silt.  Crazy silt.  Silt in the dark.  Silt coming into the car.  Silt coming into my helmet since our Parker pumper was broken and I had to keep my face shield cracked so it wouldn't fog.  Silt going into my eyes and up my nose.

Driving in silt requires high rpms and as much speed as you can carry.  There was a hot second where I thought we were going to to get stuck, but we pulled out of it (I was driving for Desert Dingo in their class 11 stock VW) and we finished the rest of the leg with silt covered face plates and limited visibility.  My eyes were watering so badly I could barely see, just relied on my co-driver to tell me where to go.  But I got the car to the next driver and we ended up 2nd in class.

What do you do for your 9-5?

I'm the costume manager at Ford's Theatre in Washington DC.  I manage all aspects of the costume department.  Basically the designer draws the pretty pictures, then I make it happen, either by pulling the clothes from stock, renting them, or arranging for them to be built, either locally or in New York.

I also review new cars for Roadfly TV.  We are the fourth largest car review channel on You Tube.  It's really fun and I get to drive some awesome cars!  I've had the Subie WRX, Mustang Boss, Audi A6, Jaguar XK Convertibleā€¦I get paid and I get a free tank of gas!

What type of hobbies do you have outside of racing?

Well, I have some girly hobbies.  I make a lot of my own clothes and I knit.  I started in theatre as an actor, and occasionally I will get up on stage and perform.

What type of pets do you have currently?

I have a cat named Bella that hates me.  Before I got her she fell off a 4th story balcony.  She's a little crazy.

When you were little, what did you want to be when you grew up?

Lots of things.  Truck driver, motorcycle rider, teacher, actress, I think there was a fleeting dalliance with ice skater.

Do you follow other racing series? If so, which ones?

I usually follow my pals if they are racing, and people race in different series.  So one weekend I'll be following a VORRA race, the next I'll be tracking a car that my pal is crew chiefing for in a Best in the Desert race.  I guess I have no loyalty!

MotoIQ would like to say a big “Thank You!” for doing this interview with us, is there anyone that you'd like to say “Thank You” to?

My parents for  helping me race and supporting me with all my crazy ideas.  Jim Graham at Desert Dingo for helping me with all things social media and PR related, and for giving me seat time in their class 11 stock VW.  Thanks to Ford's Theatre for giving me comp time to go race.  And of course, thanks to Off Road Vixensfor keeping me in awesome racewear, the Waterfront for the use of their digs, and GoPro for the awesome HD cameras.  You can like me on Facebook at www.facebook.com/EmmeHall and check out my website at www.hallassracing.com.
