After switching lanes, the teams ran again, and SPM fought back, winning Round 2 and tieing it up!
A final lane switch, a final pit stop, and Team Penske triumphs again!
This may be for fun, but it means a lot to the teams to prove they are the best. All of Team Penske celebrated (five teams worth of crewmen!) their third PSC win in a row.
Despite all of those Penske wins, this was Power’s first time winning the PSC. He and the team were quite happy to finally be the ones to bring it home for Roger.
Yes, the PSC is a fun crowd pleaser, but really it is about showcasing the teams and their athleticism. These guys have to be in top physical shape, just like the drivers, in order to handle their powerful lug guns, sling a 50+ lb fueling hose, and fling around 40lb wheels and tires like they’re made of paper. You may have seen Top Gear star Richard Hammond give it a try and find out how tough it really is. The member of Will Power’s team (frpm left to right): John Turpin (lollipop man), Trevor Lacasse (tire changer), Shaun Rinaman (tire changer), Matt Johnsson (crew chief & tire changer), Will Power (driver), Blaine Hardy (jack man), Quinton Washington (fueler), and Mike Strousse (tire changer). Congratulations guys!
On Saturday, the cars are packed away, the crews get to sleep in, and the drivers get to put on some comfy jeans and take a breather. Saturday at the Speedway is Legend’s Day, where the track honors drivers who have competed in the 500 both past and present. The morning opens with an autograph session for the field of 33. You have to get in early to get your spot. This was taken 30 minutes before the drivers even showed up and most of the lines were already full. IndyCar isn’t popular anymore? BULLSHIT.
