It was time for the next 20-minute Novice session. I hurried back to my car to pull it onto grid in pit lane.
Although it had stopped raining during the previous sessions, the track was still wet, with large puddles of standing water on the new South Course. As a precaution, the first Novice lap was held under full-course caution.
It was awesome being one of the first people in the world to drive on Pitt Race’s new Full Course. The track and facility are gorgeous (it’s easily one of the prettiest tracks I’ve been to), and the staff said that the drainage issues would be worked out very soon.
In summary, there’s just no better way to get introduced to open track driving. SCCA’s Track Night presented by Tire Rack is inexpensive, accessible, safe, and—most of all—fun. Everything about the program is geared towards making getting on track with your car easy and safe. The staff and fellow participants are all friendly and will answer questions to help make you a better driver. And if you’re already experienced in driving on a road course, Track Night is a great way to get more seat time for honing your skills and testing out car setups for a really low price!
There’s just no way to have any more fun than that in the front seat of a car!
So what are you waiting for? Get out on track!
