Limited AWD:
The Nightmotorsport Subaru WRX of Istvan Klag was one of two cars in Limited AWD. His time of 2:06.917 really looks slow, but when you compare it to… |
… the Limited AWD Mitsubishi Evolution from Evasive Motorsports, it can seem like an unfair advantage. You can't say that the driver, Michael Chang, isn't a talent behind the wheel. That's far from the truth as his time, 1:49.546 was fast for the entire weekend, despite leaving early on Sunday! There was a catastrophic failure on the car and they were not able to finish the entire weekend. |
Unlimited FWD:
The only competitor in Unlimited FWD was Chris Rado in the Need for Speed Scion tC. He wasn't out there to compete against other Unlimited FWD cars, though, he was out there for breaking records! And that he did with a time of 1:49.116! He thought there was much more in the car… |
Unfortunately, severe engine damage early into Sunday's first round of Time Attack Competition would not allow for Chris to explore those limits. He will get he car back together for the next round and you will not only see him there, but you will see more of him soon on MotoIQ! We'll be doing a full feature on this car as well as his daily driven street car! |
Unlimited RWD:
Regularly competing in Grand Am Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge in Grand Sport, the AM Racing Nissan 370Z is not only a new chassis to that class, but also to Time Attack Racing! This also proves how important track time is and how Time Attack can get you that experience! Thomas Merrill is also a driving coach along with his Grand Am duties. Anyone who is looking for a perfect driving coach should look for him as his 1:57.520 in a Grand Am enforced 370Z competing in Unlimited RWD shows he knows a thing or two about driving fast. |
However, when you don't really have strict rules to follow like you do in Grand Am, you can build amazing cars that those same talented drivers can compete in. The FX Motorsports Development Acura NSX is a perfect demonstration of what kinds of cars can be built if you let engineers roam free. Fellow Grand Am Continential Sports Car Challenge driver, Billy Johnson, is also a perfect demonstration on the talent in Grand Am Racing! With his time of 1:49.201, he took the class win despite not utilizing the Sunday sessions. Their car developed a problem that could not be fixed in time to try and better their original result. |
Unlimited AWD:
The Fat/Snail Performance Subaru WRX of Travis Barnes, also known as “Sauce Bauce,” was able to capture a 2nd place in Unlimited AWD. This was the second podium for Snail Performance for the weekend and if they can keep this up, they may be the team to watch for in 2012! 1:59.367 was the time that allowed them that second place. |
Finally, Darth Vader is back! Well, at least the GST Motorsports Subaru Impreza L and Jeff Westphal are back and on track for another fast year! Their time of 1:46.631 took the class win and was the fastest time of the entire weekend! This despite issues with the car, but GST and Westphal were able to overcome them and take the Over All win in GTA! They are now on Continental Tires and painted in “Darth Vader Black.” |
In GTA's Synergy Turbo True Street Classes, VJ Mirzayan took home the top spot in his Street RWD Evolution Motorwerks BMW 135i. In First place in AWD was Thomas Smith in his Street AWD Subaru Impreza STI and in Second place was Tony Brown in his Nightmotorsport Subaru WRX. Chris Frick in the HG Motorsports Mitsubishi Evolution was able to secure Third place in the Synergy Turbo True Street AWD. This weekend is only an indication of where Global Time Attack is heading! The next stop will be at Road Atlanta during the same weekend as Formula Drift on May 11-12th. This will be the first Time Attack Session for GTA at the historic circuit. Will even more history be made and more records broken in the Georgia heat? Come on down and find out!
