As the day progressed times dropped but not without Road Atlanta taking its toll. Bryan Hedian had his newly supercharged Wyred Racing S2000 out and while Bryan and his Dad were happy to be at the track and flogging the car, the transmission was not!
GTA regular Bryan Hedian and his Dad brought the STOOK out from New Jersey. Bryan has added additional power in the form of an intercooled centrifugal blower system. The trans had a mind of its own though and kept Bryan from exploring the car's new potential. We have no doubt that he and his Dad wil have it back and ready in no time. |
We also saw Austin Cabot bring his FR-S down the hill and in to turn 12 at close to 100 MPH and spin on the main straight. If you are familiar with the track you know that this is NOT a good place to have an “off” and we are happy to report Austin was able to keep it mostly straight and just barely scraped the wall. While there was some damage it was purely cosmetic and Austin dusted himself off and went in to Saturday with a fresh set of underwear.
Considering what can happen when you spin coming out of 12 onto the main straight we color Austin blessed! This light scrub was all that happened when he decided to make sure the track walls were soild. After a quick toe check and adjustment he would take it right back out there. I should have checked the trash can closest to Austin for a pair of undershorts as I suspect he likely soiled them! |
The UMS Evo had a transmission shit the bed and we saw them in the Professional Awesome pit to swap to their backup and the Snail STi lost some gears… We think Travis might have left them in the grass on one of his outings…
After last year's crash at this exact track Kevin Parlett and the boys from SOHO brought their G35 out better than ever. The rebuild took them the better part of the year and this was the first time the car would see the track. After some hot laps a failed flex pipe in the turbo crossover section would end their weekend. We have no doubt this car will be out in force and we must say we love the new livery! |
One driver that not only survived Friday but also held the fastest time of the day was Whit Staples in his Evo. When shooting on the main straight I could tell Whit was clipping along as I had to zoom out a bit and pan more quickly to get shots of his car! Turns out my observations were correct as he submitted and we all approved a 1:29.640. The only sub 1:30 lap of the day and some 5 seconds ahead of the rest of the field. If someone wanted to catch Whit on Saturday they would have to bring the heat provided the rain would hold off.
Whit Staples is not only a kick ass time attack and race car driver but also a professional golfer. He also has great hair and a winning smile, some guys get blessed with it all and to further assist my self deprecation he set down the only sub 1:30 lap of the entire weekend. |
