With Istvan Klag behind the wheel and Gary Sheehan (yeah THAT Gary Sheehan) acting as driver coach and crew chief they dropped a lot of time over the weekend! Istvan would turn a 1:37.176 and have to make room on his wrist for the new Meister watch he won for being the fastest car in the Street tire classes. |
Normally I would go on to tell you about all of the times in the other classes and make things sounds exciting. I mean sure they are exciting but celebrating anything after this event seems almost wrong and yet that funny thing we mentioned in the opening line happened at the awards ceremony. Doug Wind in his SRT4 kicked serious ass to earn $600 for first place in Limited FWD (this in a car perfectly legal in Street FWD) and another $250 for setting a class record. Tony Szirka put in work and earned $200 for second place in the Unlimited All Wheel Drive class. And while other people won and earned money what these two people did next is beyond amazing. At the end of the awards ceremony Professional Awesome was called back to the podium so that Doug and Tony could hand over their winnings to the PA team to help get them started on the next build. That's right, these two class acts handed over $800 of their winnings to Dan, Mike, and Grant of Professional Awesome. No question or hesitation, just a display of genuine respect between brothers in speed.
You know his car but honestly machines are nothing without the men behind them! Doug Wind set the tone by donating $600 in winnings to the Professional Awesome team to help with their rebuild. I personally thank Doug for causing me to tear up while taking this shot. I took video of this ceremony but it is not safe for work as I shout out “FUCK YES” while standing next to the camera when Doug displays his generosity and completely humbles the guys from PA. This photo, in one instant, captures the spirit of the camaraderie within the sport of Time Attack! |
