Global Time Attack – Round 1 – Road Atlanta

,

After leaving the track we headed back to the hotel to clean our swass and take in some local fare. ATL and the outlying areas have some KILLER beer and food places (put little old Decatur GA in your next itinerary) though almost anything would be amazing compared to our Thursday outing at the Quilted Twat… Err Tilted Kilt. No offense but I have only been to this establishment twice and while the food isn't half bad, the service is always lacking brains! I know, I know, they hire talent for OTHER reasons, but it is hard to order a beer in that place. Short of pouring it myself it took quite a while for my frosty beverage to make an appearance. While I waited we got to observe some of the other “patrons” of JDM descent getting their grope on with one of the servers and it was good for a laugh anyway…

The teams lined up to try and get their “frying raps” in before the rain. Several terms were coined this weekend and you can expect this new term to be overused in the very near future. #JDMese…

Saturday morning brought a 50% chance of rain yet sunny skies as we rolled in. We timed our entrance perfectly as we entered the gate at 7:55 A.M.and we beached the rental at the fence and shot at “The Hill” at famous turn 12. If we have not mentioned it already, Road Atlanta is a beautiful track and has a LOT of great places to shoot from; if only I had some actual talent with a camera! We shot the session, jumped back in the car, and headed back out for coffee so that we could make it through the rest of the VERY long day!

Pro Auto Blake Hoffert SRT 4 Global Time Attack Road Atlanta 2013
Newcomer Blake Hoffert in the Pro Auto SRT4 came out to Atlanta to compete. He is new to the sport and fellow competitor and SRT4 ace Doug Wind was in the car helping him learn the line during the weekend. Regardless of his times he was all smiles when he came off the track and that is really what this is all about!

As we returned with our own sort of “race fuel” we noticed a GT-R waiting at the gate with Volks and a Forged license plate; none other than Sharif Abdelbaset in his daily driver GT-R coming out to play. While he registered late and his times would not count in the competition he laid it down right away and was fast out of the box.

Forged Performance GTR Sharif Abdelbaset Global Time Attack Road Atlanta 2013
This here is Sharif's daily driver. This 2013 stock turbo 530 WHP GTR with JRZ suspension and Hoosier A6s was able to blast 3 laps at a time before heat soak began to cause power loss. It's a good thing that time attack is about the fastest lap and Sharif laid down the second fastest time of the weekend with a 1:30.136. This time would be for exhibition only as Sharif was a late comer but did we mention this is a daily driver on stock turbo's with nearly full weight? WTFSMHOMGBBQ?!#@

We also saw Tony Szirka in the UMS Evo start to pick up speed. We noticed the car was quite “loose” when we saw it wander even under throttle through turn 12. Tony dialed in more wing angle (later finding out it was TOO much) to gain that high speed stability and that adjustment allowed his “attachments to drop” and turn up the wick to battle it out with Travis Barnes. That's right UMS got the trans. swapped over and the car back on track and Travis “0fucksgiven” Barnes decided to run without 3rd and 4th gear anyway! Teams took every session seriously as the threat of rain was ever constant! Cloud cover rolled through but the track stayed dry and gave each team a chance to better their time and move in to the money spots.

This car should look familiar based on the recent Nerd's Eye View by yours truly. We won't bore you with the technical details, we will simply say that without the help of Krystal from UMS this car would not have made it. She single handedly towed this car from Arizona to Georgia and back. Yup all by herself, what kind of man let's her do that? #owned

BRE 240SX Pierre Paniagua LS7 URWD Global Time Attack 2013 Road Atlanta GTA
One car that everyone was talking about was the BRE Motorsports 240SX owned and driven by Pierre Paniagua. This beast of a car is brand new for 2013 and this was its first outing. This thing features hand formed metal work for the body panels, a BRE spec LS7 powerplant, as well as a full roll cage and tubular front end. The car is built to the letter of the rules to compete in the Unlimited RWD class. Watch out for this car to come on strong as they have more time with the car on track. Oh and it sounded like a straight beast on track.
