Improving Your Driving with DK Racing School

Next, the students drove with instructors in their cars for some serious learning.  The high instructor-to-student ratio was pretty helpful here!

Finally, the students got to go alone at speed with the instructors out running interference while watching how their students handled driving solo at speed.  Here Christa is in front of a fellow student in an R35 while Martina Kwan is behind in her GT4 class 911.  After this session it was time for a lunch break, lunch is provided by the school.

DK Racing’s facility is awesome.  They have a full-service shop and can store and prep your race car right at Willow Springs.  Dwain Demet is the owner of Vision Motorsports and this is a satellite facility of their main shop in Laguna Hills.

After lunch, the students got to run two sessions solo.  Christa was out running by herself and was running really well.  Maybe her kart racing experience was helping.

No one was taking lap times but from casual observation, it looked like Christa was the fastest car that wasn’t a race car.  Not bad for being the lowest power car on a power track.  I had told Christa not to go all out because this is a streetcar without a cage, fire system, or harness.  Christa cheated and was using the Apex Pro app to track her lap times and speeds. She was running in the 1:40 flat range take it easy which is respectable for a beginner and shows what is possible with good instruction.  Back in the 80s racing SSB with the SCCA, low 1:50’s was good so beginner Christa was way faster than her dad used to be, hahaha.
