Inside Formula Drift with Mike Kojima

MK: Currently drifting is the only growth motorsport which is kinda sad.  All other motorsports are seeing a decline in fan interest and the average age of fans is getting older and older. I think drifting combines, fast fan-pleasing action and technically interesting cars.  The drivers and teams are also accessible to the fans to interact with and in drifting every seat in the house is usually a good seat where you can see all the action.  For advances in suspension tuning, who knows, every time I think we are at the limit of what can be done, we figure out more stuff and the cars keep getting faster.  I think a lot of this is constantly improving tire technology. I think drifting is partially responsible for the great improvements we have seen in 200 UTQG tires in the past 15 years or so. Nowadays many 200 tires are faster than the old R compound DOT race tires that last for a while. Things like blistering and tread separation are almost unheard of now. This is in a large part due to drifting.

Thanks, Mike- always fun to catch up. See you in 2025!

Mike Kojima is currently soliciting booth model gigs as well.

For Sam, every podium is for you.
